Values: The Ultimate Guide to Personal, Team & Organizational Alignment

Thea Brockmeyer explaining the 9 Levels value system during a leadership values workshop

Ever tried to align a team, make a big decision or plan a strategy and felt stuck? Most leaders think they understand their values until they realize they can’t name them or see how they show up in daily behavior. That’s usually where clarity begins.

A Personal Note From Thea

I didn’t always understand how powerful values truly are. Years ago, while preparing a Vision Mission Values workshop for a global telecommunications corporation, I called one of the most brilliant consultants I knew, a Harvard-trained strategist who had worked on innovation projects across the world.

On that call, he told me something that landed deeply:

Thea, you have to start every strategy workshop with values.

It surprised me, almost humbled me, because until then, I thought values were something “soft” in a very hard business world. But once I saw how they shaped decisions, behaviour, trust, and conflict in Fortune 200/500 boardrooms, in startup strategy sessions, and later in my own business, everything clicked.

Since then, I’ve gone all in:

  • certified in Nine Levels of Value Systems
  • trained in Spiral Dynamics
  • certified in the Hartman Value Profile
  • guiding leaders and teams across industries to make values real, not theoretical

My intention here is simple and heartfelt: to help you see what truly drives you clearly, practically, and in a way that feels grounded and human.

This page brings together the tools, ideas, and insights that have supported thousands of leaders in finding clarity, alignment, and direction through values.

What Are Values? A Simple, Clear Definition

Values are the principles that guide how you think, behave, decide, and relate to others. They define what matters most, how you show up, and what you expect from yourself and the people around you.

When values are unclear, teams struggle. When values are shared, everything becomes easier.

Team Values, Create Shared Culture and Alignment

Teams perform at their best when they share a common foundation. Shared values are the invisible code that guides behaviour, trust, collaboration, and performance.

Team values help answer questions like:

  • What do we stand for together?
  • How do we treat each other?
  • What behaviours strengthen us?
  • How do we make decisions under pressure?
  • What do we commit to as a team?
